I’ve had this car for several months and am the 3rd owner. Car had been sitting for a number of years when I purchased it. The car is very original with the original motor and 4 speed manual transmission. It has brand new tires on the original wheels. Just under 47000 original miles. This is a collectors car that deserves to be restored. I have done several things to the car since I have owned it and it is currently in good daily driving condition.
I have done the following:
-replaced stock flat top hitachi carbs (lovingly referred to as boat anchors by z enthusiasts) with superior and freshly rebuilt round top SU carbs.
-also have instructional DVD that goes with the car that explained everything about these carbs.
-replaced stock exhaust manifold with performance ceramic coated headers.
-finished off the exhaust system with 3 inch exhaust into a magnaflow muffler with dual over under tips.
-bought and installed dash cover as the dash is cracked in a few places (very common for the 240z)
-have brand new black carpet kit for the entire car
-new clutch slave cylinder has been installed
-I also have a brand new glovebox liner for the car
As I said above the car is in good daily driving condition as it sits and is mechanically sound. All the lights work as they should with the exception of the rear running lights which simply need to be rewired (I will be fixing this soon).
Other things the car needs to be restored:
-drivers door needs to be patched on the bottom and has some surface rust on the outside.
-there is a soft ball sized hole in the front passenger side wheel well but the hole is in a flat spot so should be easy to repair.
-passenger side rocker panel has a few stops that will need to be fixed as well.
-Also the bottom of the spare tire compartment will need to be patched.
– the original owner of the car got tired of replacing the floor pans and decided to fix them with a combination of fiberglass and metal. Structurally the floors seem fine to me but they should be cut out and properly replaced for the true restoration this car deserves.
-rear running lights as I mentioned above (these are the small red marker lights on the side of the car not the taillights).
-tachometer lights up but does not work. (I will probably fix this in the next few days)
-temp/oil pressure gauge works but does not light up when lights are on.
– clock does not work but lights up
-radio does not work.
This car has the optional factory AC which is currently not working but the compressor and all the plumbing is there. Very nice feature for a Florida car. Again car is mechanically sound. Starts and stops every time. I’m getting rid of the car because I don’t have the time to restore it myself. Too many projects. But I am in no rush to sell as I am having a vast just driving the car as it is currently. I’m asking 10 grand OBO. I think that pretty much covers it. If you have any questions please email me. This was the last year of the 240z. Own a piece of sports car history that is only increasing in value.
Would consider trade for pre 1975 4×4 either restored or in very good original condition, pre 1970 HD Shovelhead in good condition, any year panhead, 1968 el camino or chevelle. Let me know what you have.
