1984 Datsun Z-Series 50th Anniversary Edition 300ZX AE Turbo near Concours Condition – Only 8,500 miles which is just enough to be broken in. Impossible to find 50th Anniversary Turbo!
Car sold brand new for $26K
As Nissan was approaching its 50th anniversary in 1984, it did what manufacturers often do – took its most potent model (the Z31 or 300zx) and added more tech and more power to it. The result was the 300ZX Turbo 50th Anniversary Edition (AE), which came equipped with a futuristic digital dash and ancillary gauges including average mileage, G-force, and compass readouts, in-car electronic adjustable shocks, Bodysonic speakers in the seats, cruise and radio controls in the steering wheel, mirrored t-tops, embroidered leather seats, embroidered floor mats, sixteen-inch (406 mm) aluminum wheels, rear fender flares, flared front fenders, Turbo labeled side skirts, and a 50th AE logo badge on the driver’s side front fender. Alongside the Shiro Special, the 50th Anniversary Edition models remains amongst the most desirable iterations of the Z31-generation of 300ZXs. In fact, only 5,148 AE models were produced for the U.S. market and 300 for the Canadian market. A non-turbo 2+2 model was available with 50AE badging in the Australian market so it is a very rare and collectable automobile.

The only option available to the 50th Anniversary Edition was the choice between an automatic and a 5-speed manual transmission. This particular 300ZX AE comes with the much more desirable and sporty 5-speed manual transmission of which only 2901 were sold.
The 300ZX was powered by Nissan’s first V-6 motor, which displaced 3-liters and developed 180 hp in normally aspirated form. However, the addition of the turbocharger brings the total to just over 200 hp and about 230 ft-lbs of torque.
All 1984 300ZX 50th Anniversary Editions came with a silver and black color scheme with special “Turbo” decals fitted to the rocker panels.
This particular 300ZX AE has been well taken care of and only driven to auto events or to exercise its electrical-fluid-mechanical systems. Thus, it is practically a new car and shows only 8500 miles on its odometer. An Experian Autocheck Vehicle History Report supports the mileage history.
This 300ZX AE is near concours condition and would only take a little work to get it there including; removing a few dings on the hood (due to being caught in a very rare hail storm during transport); replacement of passenger mirror weather stripping, touching up the wheels, and reviving the paint.
For the past 15 years, I have gorgeously restored a 240Z for car shows and driving enjoyment (google TRBUTEZ) and my daily driver is a 2014 GTR of which I admire both dearly. I recently stumbled across this 300zx in my hometown and impulsively snatched it up. Couldn’t believe I had one let alone with this low of mileage and in this condition.
This has always been a very special car to me that makes my collection of iconic Nissan’s complete. Since acquiring the car, I have completely reserviced the engine and replaced all the fluids at Artec Fabrication and Performance in San Carlos who can attest to the condition, and to change title at the DMV, it easily past the needed smog test. It drives like a dream and all the electronics appear to be working like the suspension settings and the bodysonic.
Since buying the vehicle I have come to learn that this cars value is the combination of the low mileage and showroom condition and that driving/enjoying it would slowly reduce the value. It needs to stay the showroom quality with low mileage as it is and unfortunately, lesson learned, I am not one to enjoy admiring a car that just sits in my garage. So, as the 3 month long 3rd owner, I am reselling it. I believe I originally purchased the car at a good value and, given the rarity and condition, that reselling it should bring a nice profit. Hope you can enjoy it as it should be enjoyed.
