More Details & Pictures

This is my 1971 Datsun 240Z. It is a May of 1971 model which makes it a very early Series 2 car. The Series 1 240’s were made thru about Feb of 71. It does have a few of the series one original pieces such as the vertical defroster lines on rear hatch and center console design with dual control slots for choke and throttle. I have been restoring and driving the car for about the past 4 years. I have lots of documentation of everything that I have done as well as the previous owners before me. The car was sold in Texas new and I do have all the original paperwork including the window sticker and protecta plate along with owners manual. The car runs and drives good. It has the original 4 speed, but I replaced the long block with one from a 72 240 due to the original engine being seized up after setting for many years before I purchased. It does have the original SU carbs and they work good. All of the body repairs were done by a professional body shop and we used repair panels or sheet metal from Z Car Depot. The paint is 100% original and I have just never repainted. I will let the next owner decide whether to keep it original or paint a new color. The curent color is it’s original Datsun Safari Gold. All of the interior is in good shape along with carpet and seat covers. The dash does have a cap covering the original but it has not been permanently glued in place. The car has a mechanical fuel pump but also has an electric one installed as a back up. The fuel tank was removed, cleaned and relined by a radiator shop in Knoxville about 2 years ago so there are no fuel line or fuel delivery issues.

Engine fires right up and idles like it should at 7-800 rpms. I have installed lots of new parts over the years including many engine components, upgraded aluminum radiator, alternator, starter, exhaust system, struts and suspension components. I have receipts for everything. This is not the type of classic car that you can buy over the phone. There is no way I can explain everything about this car or the extensive history and documentation that I have. I will show this car by appointment only and there will be no joy rides or tire kicking. If you are seriously interested, we will set up a time, preferably on the weekend or evening and I will be glad to let you inspect the car thoroughly. I have all the original keys for the switch, doors and hatch and they all work as they should. All wipers, lights, turn signals and electric components work properly. The heater and defroster work but the AC components were removed many years ago.

The car does need tires and a front end alignment mainly due to the new suspension components. I just never got around to doing that but the car performs fine as is for the weekend type trips that I do. The wheels are a set of gold Enkei’s with Datsun center caps. I do not have the original steel wheels and hubcaps. The exhaust has been updated to a set of 6 to 1 headers that flow into a 2.5 inch system with a turbo muffler and mild resonator. It has a great sound. It also has the original AM signal seeking radio that still works. However, the antenna needs to be repaired. The engine still has good compression of 150-155 across all cylinders. These early 240Z cars are getting hard to find in this original and rust free condition. This is a solid car that can be driven and enjoyed as is or you can finish restoring with some paint and minor body work and upgrades however you wish. Like all car projects, I have more invested than I am asking, so no need to make offers. The price is firm and very fair for what this car is worth. I have it insured with Haggerty’s for 15K and it has appraised value of more than 20K.

My contact number is listed and my name is Greg. I am 55 years old and have been enjoying Z cars for a long time. I know these cars and can answer any question you have regarding this one. I have probably turned wrenches on every single mechanical component of this car and will answer as truthfully and honest as I can.
